Dear Chicago House,
I have been dabbling with a needle, white thread and blue fabric …. look at the loveliness that has resulted!
This type of embroidery is called Sashiko and is a form of decorative reinforcement that originates from Japan.I first came across it on Pinterest where there are loads of patterns …it was all I needed to get going with my own ideas.
I am not sure what I am going to to with these 4″ squares yet, but they are very relaxing to make!
They look wonderful, a cushion front seems too simple for them but they would look stunning collectively!
What a beautiful quilt they would make!
…what an idea…it would take ages but what a project!
I just saw these, thanks for the beautiful inspiration! I’ve recently taken up stitching and just did four coasters out of my Shashiko Boho Inspired versions. What did you end up doing with those?
ooohhh I’d love to see them!
I would use them to make a purse or tote bag.
What type of fabric are you using? I want to make a quilt with sashiko squares. Yours would be lovely in a quilt.
A simple cotton
I just love the 4 squares. Can I buy it? It´s for a white dress which needs pepping up:)))
How much would it cost, the size & can you post it international to Germany?
Thankying you in advance
Hi, sorry they are not for sale but very easy to make!
The Squares are very lovely indeed!! Did you use batting, flannel, or something else as filling? I’d like to try this method to make Christmas gifts…
They are backed with plain navy fabric and not filled at all. Great idea for Christmas gifts!
Four corners on a quilt/blanket. Patch pockets on a shirt or dress, back pockets on jeans. Line w/felt, fold in half, attach buttons or snaps, for a needle case. Batting in the middle, sew two together, swanky potholders. Unstitch the bottom 2 inches on bottom outer legs of jeans, stitch a patch on each side of the opened leg seam. Stitch a triangle of one, over the top at patch pockets or jeans pockets. Stitch them along the top or bottom edge of a canvas tote.
Love the swirl ones, very creative. Thanks for posting, inspiring.
